Mateo Daukaus started his training at Metropolitan Ballet Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, training in ballet, modern dance, and folk dance. At the age of 12 Mateo began studying in the Cuban method under the Sarasota Cuban Ballet School with Ariel Serrano and Wilmian Hernandez. While there he trained with Tania Vergara and learned a wide variety of classical repertoire. He has performed such roles as the male lead of La Esmeralda, the Nutcracker Soldier, Satanella, Paquita, and Coppelia. He has also received awards from the Youth American Grand Prix, and he has received scholarships to American Ballet Theatere, John Cranko School, European School of Ballet, and Ballet West. Now, Mateo is dancing in the Preprofessional Training Division at Ballet West.
