NIKOLAY GRISHKO STORY

THE VAGANOVA BALLET ACADEMY

“The Vaganova Ballet Academy” (Academy of Russian Ballet) in St. Petersburg, one of the most respected and oldest ballet schools in the world, founded in 1738… 38 years before the proclamation of US independence! The Vaganova name is synonymous with preservation of classical ballet, it’s long history and reputation are forever engraved in the Russian culture.

Nikolay Grishko’s products are the official uniform of The Vaganova Ballet Academy.

We are offering these uniform styles in the “Nikolay Academy” catalog (Available on Nikolay-world.com). Where you can see what styles are used by the Vaganova or the Bolshoi Academies.

Several years ago, each student of the world renown Vaganova Ballet Academy received their first uniforms for ballet and leisure from Nikolay Grishko himself.

But Nikolay Grishko is even more proud of the fact that since 2015 he has been supporting one of the biggest dance events in the country on the stage of the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, the Vaganova Academy gala. This magnificent performance features students of every level and of course the graduating students of the academy, the very dancers that will shine on the best stages of the world after this very special evening. Nikolay Grishko believes in the magic of live music for events of this caliber, and he is the person takes on all travel expenses of the world renown Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra (aka Kirov Orchestra) for this event.

Experience the magic of this event, watch our video of an excerpt from the famous "Fairy of the Dolls" choreography by the Legat brothers, revived by the incomparable Nikolai Tsiskaridze.

Naturally, two Nikolays - Grishko and Tsiskaridze have developed warm relations that have been going strong for many years. Few people know that Nikolay Tsiskaridze, one of the greatest artists of the Bolshoi Theater and now Principal of the Vaganova Ballet Academy, is a brilliant arts critic. It was on his initiative that the books by John Gregory "The Saga of the Legate" and "The Legacy of the Choreographer" were published in Russian language, as well as Nikolay Legat’s book "The History of the Russian Ballet School", Mr. Legat is the sheer genius who made an invaluable contribution to the formation of the famous Vaganova performing style. The entire series of books, together with warm wishes from Nikolai Tsiskaridze, is kept in the collection of Nikolay and Tamara Grishko.

One of the most unusual performances by the legendary Nikolai Tsiskaridze is a female role from the comic ballet "The Bright Stream", which he undoubtedly performed in Nikolay Grishko's pointe shoes (size 7.5), made on a custom last!

As the history of two Nikolays continues, Mr Grishko also sponsored an exhibition by the former Bolshoi dancer Vladimir Glynin, an exhibition of exquisite photographs of Nikolai Tsiskaridze. Some of these photographs are still kept in the office of Nikolay Grishko.

We are looking forward to many more years of cooperation with the Vaganova Ballet Academy and we promise to always be there for the stars that are created by legends.
