GOLDEN MASK

Nikolay Grishko began to contribute to the development of culture in Russia and abroad from the very first days of the company's foundation. His participation in the ballet and theater world could not go unnoticed, and in 2001 Mr. Grishko was recognized with a high award - a special “Golden Mask” award for his contribution to the development of arts in the country. It was an unprecedented event - before Nikolay Grishko, the National Golden Mask Prize was awarded exclusively to government officials such as the President of Tatarstan, the Mayor of Moscow, and the Governors of the Russian regions. Nikolai Grishko became the first private businessman to receive this high award.


Golden Mask is the National Theatre Award established in 1993 by the Theatre Union of Russian Federation. The Golden Mask Award is the most prestigious award that is given to productions in all genres of theatre art, and the biggest supporters of the arts.

Two other very special awards are important to mention, presented to Mr. Nikolay Grishko for the development of ballet art and participation in maintaining the value of the cultural heritage: “Bronze Medal of Vaslav Nijinsky” in recognition of contribution to the preservation of the glorious legacy of Vaslav Nijinsky. The medal was presented to Nikolay Grishko by his excellency, Ambassador of Poland to Russia - Stanislav Chosek. “Silver Medal of Sergey Diaghilev” and a document confirming the the status of Honorary Chairman of the Diaghilev House Cultural Foundation. Nikolay Grishko was awarded “Cavalier of the Order of Diaghilev” A degree "For the benefit of Russian culture"

Sergey Diaghilev:

Russian promoter of the arts who revitalized ballet by integrating the ideals of other art forms—music, painting, and drama—with those of the dance. In 1909 he founded the Ballets Russes. Thereafter he toured Europe and the Americas. He is credited for bringing ballet art to the Americas.

Vaslav Nijinsky:

Kiev-born Polish ballet dancer of legendary fame considered the best male dancer of the 20th century. Nijinsky was a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, in 1907, appearing in such classical ballets as Giselle, Swan Lake, and The Sleeping Beauty. In 1909 he joined Sergey Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, and the company’s choreographer Michel Fokine created Le Spectre de la rose, Petrushka, Schéhérazade, and other ballets expressly for him.
